Description
Patient care: Examine patients to determine if surgery is necessary, and explain the risks and procedures to the patient and their family
Surgical procedures: Perform surgery on the heart, lungs, esophagus, trachea, and other organs in the chest
Post-operative care: Prescribe post-operative care and monitor patients in intensive care
Record keeping: Maintain records of operations performed
Communication: Consult with anaesthetists and instruct other medical staff on patient preparation and equipment requirements
Decision-making: Make critical decisions that prioritize health and well-being
Cardiothoracic surgeons undergo six to eight years of training after medical school, which includes a combination of general and cardiothoracic surgical training. Some surgeons may specialize in a particular area of cardiothoracic surgery, such as heart issues in babies
Requirements
• *Thoracic Surgeon Requirements**:

- A Degree in Medicine, with a specialization in Thoracic Surgery.
- A relevant license and certificate.
- A completed residency and several years of experience.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Published research and other evidence of academic work would be advantageous.
- A keen eye for detail.
- A willingness to assist other physicians with their cases, wherever possible.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A growth mindset and commitment to ongoing learning.
